THE 'SEA EAGLES' (MUCKY DUCKS)

There has been a lot of speculation regarding who the Sea Eagles were, who founded the organization and from where the recourses came - but we will probably never know. On joining, Harry describes meeting the others as follows:

Now here I am going to cut corners. I will describe people as I met them; just this once, then I never have to do it again. The actual names I have changed but the nicknames are real.

John (Nuts) Harper led the team. An ex Navy engineer. Age about 32. 5ft10in.Dark curly hair; Sort of quiet.
Edwin (Taff) Jones, Welsh. 5ft 6ins; rather stocky. Seaman and a few other things. Age about 27.

James, (Cyclops) Gifford. Fire fighting specialist. Very bad eyesight and wore thick glasses. Loved to play the piano. Age 30
Eric, (Morbid) Longford. Looked a bit like images of Abraham Lincoln. Pilot. First aid, Seaman. Age 28ish
Alan, (Pics) Blewitt. Longish brown hair - resembled the proverbial university student; photography expert, mechanic, seaman. Age 25.
Edward, (Billy the Kid) Marsh. Young looking, sandy hair, eager type. Seaman. Weapons expert. Diver. Age 26
Plus now, Harry Drake. 6ft, black hair, bit skinny. Seaman. Diver. Schmuck. Age 26; later to get the code name of 'The Flying Dutchman'.
So now you know as much as I did at the time.

The Sea Eagles were founded in 1972. The name 'Mucky Ducks' was taken from a pub that Taff used to drink at as a youth. Mucky Duck is a slang term for a black swan and Harry and his crew thought that rather appropriate. It is believed that the initial founding money came from a consortium of ship owners and marine insurance companies. There was much going on at the time (still is today) and people were tired of the lack of official action.

Of the eight original Ducks, Harry is the only survivor. Of all those that worked with the Ducks over the years only three survive (out of 14).
Ill health and injuries forced Harry to leave the Ducks in 1995 after serving 23 years. As far as anybody knows the Sea Eagles disbanded in 2003 after most of the remaining crew were killed in a plane crash.

To find out about Anna Minet (Red) you will have to read the book and Odyssey 2005.

Modern pirates are again in great numbers and, as in back in 1972, nothing much is being done to curtail their activities - perhaps it's time for the Ducks to be reborn
